Beating LinkedIn and Meta Ads in Cost per Lead
The challenge
Recruitment Jobz, An Australian private recruitment agency focused on fintech hiring. In here they relied on cold email to reach companies with open job positions. Their existing outreach was largely manual and generic, resulting in poor deliverability and weak engagement. Performance over the prior period (Feb–July) was notably low: ~0.4% open rate and a 1.6% reply rate, producing only 7 positive replies from roughly 9,600 emails. The process also consumed significant sales time (research + writing) without meaningful return, making the effective cost per lead unsustainable.

Our Approach
We designed and implemented an end-to-end AI-assisted outreach workflow that automated the full cycle—from lead discovery to personalized messaging and follow-ups—so the team could scale output without scaling manual effort. The system was orchestrated in n8n to connect each component into a continuous, hands-free pipeline.
Key updates included:
Automated lead sourcing (Apify): Continuous scraping of fresh, high-intent prospects (e.g., companies posting new roles across job boards/LinkedIn/Crunchbase signals), keeping lists current with minimal manual work.
AI-driven personalization (OpenRouter): An AI agent generated custom outreach per prospect using context like job post details, company profile, and industry signals—designed to read as human and specific rather than templated.
Scalable sending + deliverability controls (Instantly): API-driven campaign creation and follow-ups, warmed sending accounts/domains, scheduling, and analytics to support volume while protecting inbox placement.
Optimization loop: Ongoing prompt and messaging adjustments based on reply performance and deliverability metrics (e.g., bounce/spam signals), enabling improvement beyond the initial launch.
The Outcome
After deployment (late July–August), outreach performance improved materially:
6.1% overall reply rate (436 total replies) across 7,145 outreach sequences (initial + follow-ups).
111 qualified opportunities, with 25.5% of replies classified as positive—about a 15× increase in leads versus the prior approach (7 positives).
Lower cost per lead: $2,908-$3019 total campaign spend ($2,326 service fee + ~$582 tools), equating to ~$26.20 per lead.
Benchmark comparison: The cost-per-lead was substantially lower than typical paid channels cited in the case study (LinkedIn ~ $408 CPL; Facebook/Meta ~ $142 CPL).
Qualitative lift: Prospects explicitly referenced the relevance of the outreach, and the team gained an edge by contacting hiring managers quickly—often within hours of a job post going live.
